Professor Hywel Francis, Chairman of Live Now and strategic adviser for Archives, Regional Policy and Widening Participation at Swansea University, will discuss Live Now’s work and the importance of developing a compassionate community in the Neath and Swansea valleys.

The main aim of the launch is to raise awareness of the support that is available in the local community to individuals that need end of life care. Live Now representatives from Pembrokeshire and Aberystwyth will also be discussing their personal experiences of volunteering with Live Now in Wales during the launch.

This is an opportunity for residents of the Neath and Swansea Valleys to hear how they can be part of Live Now’s important work.

Live now is a part of a three-year programme called Dying Matters, a programme funded by the Welsh Government, which draws attention to the importance of discussing, health care, death and bereavement.

Professor Hywel Francis said; “Historically, communities throughout Wales have been supportive and compassionate to those that are dying and mourning. Today, however, we tend to hide away from discussing and preparing for end of our life.

“Live Now’s objective is to encourage individuals to live life fully through discussing how to prepare for the inevitable with their friends and families. If we can complete this objective, we can once again create compassionate communities that supports those that are nearing the end of their lives as well as those closest to them.”
