Dr Jon Howden-Evans appointed Vice President of AGCAS

Dr Jon Howden-Evans has been appointed as Vice President of the Association of Graduate Careers Advisory Services (AGCAS) which supports and represents career development and employability services for university students across the UK.

In taking up the role for the next three years, Jon’s aim is to combine his experience of student support, teaching excellence and regulatory compliance to ensure the services and expertise that support graduate outcomes continue to grow with impact and significance.

In his role as head of Swansea University’s Employability Academy (SEA) for the past five years, Jon has coordinated the transformation of the separate provision of careers, placement and enterprise support through a university wide programme of change. This has had a positive impact on graduates, while Swansea University was recently shortlisted for the Times Higher Education ‘University of the Year’ award. SEA has also today been shortlisted as one of the top five in the Best University Careers & Employability Service category at the National Undergraduate Employability Awards 2019.

Jon joined Swansea University in 2004 to develop and teach a professional diploma for law graduates, going on to lead the Department of Legal Studies before taking on new roles as Deputy Head of School and then Employability Director for the College of Business, Economics & Law.

As a qualified solicitor, specialising in Competition Law, Jon has taught a range of legal subjects to students at different levels of study at Swansea, Cardiff and for the Open University. He has presented Swansea University’s ‘employability model’ at a variety of national and international conferences.
