‌The University’s growing world-wide reputation has seen it leap up 69 places on last year’s position and puts the University in the top 4% of world leading institutions.

QS has published the rankings annually since 2004, which considers over 3,000 of the world’s estimated 10,000 universities.

According to the latest QS rankings, Swansea University is also:

-       Ranked 180^th and 235^th in the world for its international student and staff ratios respectively, demonstrating its drive and commitment to become a truly international institution.

-       Ranked 360^th (up 41 places) in the world for its research strength based on the number of citations received per academic staff member. This improved ranking reflects the impressive growth in the University’s world-leading and internationally-excellent research quality.

-       Ranked 351^st in the world (up 27 places) for its student to faculty ratio, which is a measure of how many students there are per academic staff member.

Professor Hilary Lappin-Scott, Senior Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research and Innovation and Strategic Development, said: “We are thrilled Swansea has broken into the top 400 universities in the world in this year’s QS rankings.  This, with our consistently high rankings in other independent surveys and league tables for student satisfaction, employability, and research excellence, confirm that Swansea University continues on a strong upward trajectory and is fast gaining a reputation for international excellence.”

The news of this improved international reputation has been preceded by a wave of recent successes at Swansea, including:

-       Achieving the University’s ambition to become a UK top 30 research institution – Swansea was ranked 26^th (up from 52^nd) in the Research Excellence Framework 2014 (REF2014).

-       Being awarded 5-Stars for excellence in the global QS Stars quality assessment, placing us amongst other world-leading institutions to have also achieved 5-Stars such as Harvard and Oxford.

-       Swansea is now ranked 8^th in the UK for an exceptional result in overall student satisfaction, as measured in the National Student Survey 2015.

-       Achieved a top 15 position in the UK for producing global graduates capable of securing professional level jobs or entering graduate level further study.

The University’s magnificent £450m science and innovation Bay Campus development, which formally opens on Monday, September 21, further extends the institution’s international reach and is regarded as one of the largest knowledge economy projects in the UK and within the top five in Europe.

“The Bay Campus will allow us to expand our growing international strategic partnerships that currently comprise of the Swansea-Texas partnership, the Université Joseph Fourier in Grenoble partnership, and the recently signed partnership with the Universiti Malaysia Pahang, paving the way for industry-academia collaborations in Malaysia’s East Coast Economic Region (ECER),” added Professor Lappin-Scott.

“These partnerships bring together top academic minds to exchange ideas and facilitate world-leading joint research whilst also providing enviable student mobility opportunities to work or study abroad supported by over 100 university partnerships world-wide.

“And just last week, the British Science Association announced Swansea University has been selected to host next year’s highly prestigious British Science Festival, a vibrant celebration of science, engineering and technology, which will again shine the international spotlight on our world-leading research.

“We look towards the 2015-2016 academic year with great excitement and anticipation.  Our continued success as Swansea University enters a new era and promises to bring us significantly closer to realising our ambition of becoming a top 200 Global University.”
