The Pelvic Health Physiotherapy Network was sponsored and chaired by David Rees AM, chairman of the Health and Social Services Committee, and supported by the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy.

The audience of key people from the NHS in Wales heard from physiotherapists about current guidelines, best practice examples and the mental health problems that can be associated with pelvic health dysfunction.

Professor Phil Reed has been working closely with the physiotherapy service at Singleton Hospital, Swansea, and is continuing to provide research support for the women’s health service. His research has shown how psychology can support physiotherapy to become even more effective.

A medical gynaecologist in the audience said waiting times for gynaecology in his health board area had fallen since it had invested  in physiotherapy.

This example of working together conforms to the principles of “prudent healthcare” being encouraged by Health Minister Professor Mark Drakeford.
