The Bay Campus is being delivered on St. Modwen’s 65 acre former BP Transit site on the eastern approach into Swansea and will have the distinction of being one of the few global universities with direct access onto a beach and its own seafront promenade when complete. The Campus will provide academic, student accommodation and research space, the latter being in a series of agreements with international and national companies. 

Rupert Joseland, South Wales Regional Director for St. Modwen, said: “The Bay Campus is an incredibly exciting project to be involved in and one which complements our extensive experience in regenerating complex mixed-use sites. Over the last six months we have made significant progress on site, with the structural steel frame of the new SMaRT building complete and framing of the £32m Engineering Manufacturing Centre close to completion. We are also underway with construction on the new student accommodation, which when finished will comprise 899 new rooms built around internal courtyards with social spaces.”

St. Modwen is developing the Bay Campus with building contractor, VINCI Construction UK and Swansea University’s framework contractor Leadbitter, a Bouygues company. Working on the Singleton Campus, since 2010, Leadbitter has been contracted to construct the Innovation Hub and the ESRI (Energy Safety Research Institute) Building on the Bay Campus. Foundation work commenced earlier this month.

Vice-Chancellor of Swansea University, Professor Richard B. Davies, said: “It is very exciting to see work on the Bay Campus progressing so quickly. The development is a major factor in the regeneration of the south west Wales economy, creating thousands of jobs. The new campus will provide the best university facilities in the UK, in an outstanding location.  It will initially house Engineering and the School of Management, and will be an exemplar for academics and industry working effectively together on research and enhancing career opportunities for students.”
