Siwan Raymant and Rebecca Davies, who are studying towards a Welsh-medium BA degree in Welsh and Media Studies at Swansea University, will receive specialist training at Fast Train Cymru run by the BBC Academy and Creative Skillset.

The Fast Train Cymru event, which is aimed mainly at freelance workers within the Welsh media industry, is held at BBC Wales’ Broadcasting House in Cardiff on November 7. The day-long event will focus on drama, factual and entertainment and will include master classes, workshops and technical demonstrations, where the students will gain first-hand knowledge from experts in the field.

Student Siwan Raymant, from Morfa Nefyn near Pwllheli, who has been chosen to attend the training day, said: “I think I will benefit a great deal as it will be an eye-opener and present all aspects of the industry to me and will help me to decide which direction I’d like to go in the future. It’s a great opportunity to meet professionals in the field, and to hear what they have to say about their experiences. I’m very excited to be part of the course and strongly believe it will help me decide what I’d like to do in the future.” 

Non Vaughan Williams Coleg Cymraeg Lecturer in Digital Media, at Swansea University, said: “This is the first time that this training has been offered to our students who are about to embark on their careers in the television, radio or new media industries. It will provide invaluable training from leading names in the industry on skills such as editing, storytelling, directing, as well as career advice on working in the media.

“We are very pleased to see co-operation of this kind between the University and the industry and we are confident it will enhance the skills of our students and increase their employability skills for potential work opportunities in the future.”
