NERC Planet Earth Online: Size matters for ocean acidification effects

The Natural Environment Research Council’s (NERC) Planet Earth Online currently highlights the research of Professor Kevin Flynn from Swansea University’s Centre for Sustainable Aquatic Research.

Professor Flynn is the lead author of the study “Changes in pH at the exterior surface of plankton with ocean acidification”, which was recently published online by leading journal Nature Climate Change.

The study details how changes in the ocean’s chemistry, as a result of global warming, could threaten organisms such as marine plankton to a greater extent than scientists have previously thought.

NERC provided the primary funding for the study, whose authors also included scientists from Plymouth Marine Laboratory, the Marine Biological Association, and the University of Dundee in the UK, and the University of Technology Sydney and Monash University, Victoria in Australia.
