‌Visitors to the Eisteddfod, held at the Royal Welsh Showground in Builth Wells between 28 May and 2 June, will have the opportunity to enjoy a variety of activities from the world of science, technology and digital under the leadership of Swansea University’s scientists. The GwyddonLe attracts thousands of visitors every day and offers an exciting programme of activities, competitions and scientific events for people of all ages.

For the first time this year, the GwyddonLe will host a new public speaking competition. Her Academi Morgan (The Morgan Academy Challenge) is a competition for older school pupils; the topic of discussion for this year is ‘Nuclear energy is essential in securing a supply of sustainable energy for Wales’. The event is organised by the Morgan Academy, Swansea University’s public policy research centre in cooperation with the Department of Geography and Academi Hywel Teifi. The competition aims to give pupils the opportunity to display their debating and reasoning skills in addition to receiving feedback from the judges who are leading figures in the field of policy and politics, Simon Thomas AM and Deputy Director of Morgan Academy, Helen Mary Jones. The competition’s best speakers in favour and against the topic of discussion will receive £250 each for their schools, with the victorious individual winning the Morgan Academy Scholarship and the opportunity to go on a Morgan Academy arranged work experience. 

Amongst GwyddonLe’s other activities are the opportunity to code robots, conduct detective DNA tests, test driving skills, learn more about the mystery of the stars and much more. In addition to this, visitors will also have the opportunity to win prizes in daily competitions and discover more about courses and opportunities that are offered by Swansea University. GwyddonLe’s partners, Creadigidol, National Parks Wales, sustainable engineering company Riversimple, North Wales Wildlife Trust, Radnorshire Wildlife Trust and the Institute of Physics in Wales, will also be providing various activities throughout the week.
