All alumni are invited to attend the Hywel Teifi Memorial Lecture held in the Babell Lên on Thursday, 8 August at 11am, which will be delivered by Professor Gwynedd Parry, Department of Welsh, Swansea University on the subject of the trials and tribulations of the Conwy Valley writers and poets. Following the lecture, a reception for Swansea University alumni and friends will be held in the company of Huw Chiswell.

Emyr Humphreys at 100 – An Unrivalled Writer | Monday 5 August, 12.45pm

To celebrate Emyr Humphreys’ 100th birthday, Professor M. Wynn Thomas, holder of the Emyr Humphreys Chair of Welsh Writing in English at Swansea University, will be discussing his life and work.

Y graig yn sownd o dan ein traed / A talk on popular music from the Swansea Valley | Tuesday 6 August, 12.45pm

Some of Wales’ most eminent songwriters, and friends of Swansea University – Dewi Pws Morris, Cleif Harpwood and Huw Chiswell, will be discussing the influence places and community have had on their songs and poems.

Byw Iaith / Life and language in Brittany  | Wednesday 7 August, 12.45pm

Chaired Bard Aneirin Karadog, Swansea University Department of Welsh PhD student, and Chief Bard Twm Morys will be talking about their experience of living in Brittany and discussing Aneirin’s latest book which includes poems about Brittany and a family diary of their time living there over the past year.  The book shows, despite dire predictions, that there are people who live their lives through the Breton language today.

Raised in Melin-y-Coed, Gwynedd Parry will be taking material from his new book as he shares some legal trials and tribulations of famous writers and poets from the Eisteddfod area.

Elena Puw Morgan – awdures leol o flaen ei hoes / a writer ahead of her time | Cymdeithasau 1 | Friday 9 August, 11am

Following the recent republication of the unique novel Nansi Lovell by Honno, which describes Elena Puw Morgan’s relationship with the Welsh Romani in north Wales during the first half of the twentieth century, the author’s granddaughters, Dr Angharad Puw Davies (Swansea University Medical School) and Dr Mererid Puw Davies (UCL) will be discussing her life and work.

Tai haf – Polisi i Gymru / Holiday Homes – A Policy for Wales | Cymdeithasau 1 | Monday 5 August, 3pm

Dr Simon Brooks, from Swansea University’s Morgan Academy, will be discussing his research into the effects of holiday homes with Plaid Cymru’s Shadow Minister for Education and the Welsh Language and AM for Arfon, Siân Gwenllian.

Creu Dinasyddiaeth i Gymru /Creating Citizenship for Wales  | Cymdeithasau 1 | Wednesday 7 August, 3.30pm

Dr Gwennan Higham, Department of Welsh, Swansea University and Dr Angharad Closs Stephens from Swansea University’s Geography Department, will be discussing their research into the language rights of minorities and immigrants, with the new Welsh Language Commissioner, Aled Roberts.

The pay gap, discrimination, lack of women in leadership roles within academia, politics and public policy – what is the true effect of recent campaigns on equality? A discussion between Dr Gwenno Ffrancon (Director of Academi Hywel Teifi, Swansea University),  Dr Sarah Morse (The Learned Society of Wales), Helen Antoniazzi (Chwarae Teg) and Angharad Penrhyn Jones (author, commentator and co-editor of O’r Pedwar Gwynt).
