Visitors to the Eisteddfod, held in Cardiff Bay between 27 May and 1 June, will have the opportunity to enjoy a variety of activities from the world of science, technology and digital under the leadership of Swansea University’s scientists. The GwyddonLe attracts thousands of visitors every day and offers an exciting programme of activities, competitions and scientific events for people of all ages. The theme of this year’s GwyddonLe is ‘The Sea’.

Among this year's activities, Swansea University will launch its new research vessel, the RV Mary Anning, on Monday 27 May. The vessel will be moored in the Bay, and visitors will have the opportunity to take a tour of it to see the kind of research it can carry out and the type of trips it can make.

A public speaking competition, Her Academi Morgan (Morgan Academy Challenge,)will be held between 11am – 1pm on Friday 1 June, and the topic of discussion for this year is ‘Is the emphasis on plastic pollution a distraction from climate change?’. The event is sponsored by the Morgan Academy, Swansea University’s public policy research centre in cooperation with the Department of Geography and Academi Hywel Teifi. The competition, which was launched in 2018, aims to give pupils the opportunity to display their debating and reasoning skills in addition to receiving feedback from the judges who are leading figures in the field of policy and politics, Jeremy Miles AM and Assistant Director of the Morgan Academy, Aled Eirug. The competition’s best speakers in favour and against the topic of discussion will receive £250 each for their schools, with the victorious individual winning the Morgan Academy Scholarship and the opportunity to go on a Morgan Academy arranged work experience. 

Among the GwyddonLe’s other activities are the opportunity to code robots, ride a hydrogen bike, learn about plastic pollution and its impact on the environment, help professional astronomers to explore the wonders of the universe and much more. Visitors will also have the opportunity to win prizes in daily competitions and discover more about courses and opportunities that are offered by Swansea University. GwyddonLe’s partners include: Gweld Gwyddoniaeth, the Institute of Physics in Wales, Finning LTD, IBERS Aberystwyth University and AstroCymru will also be providing activities throughout the week.
