Swansea University’s Bay Campus has won a top honour at the prestigious Partnership Awards which recognise outstanding achievements in public- private collaborations.

The project claimed Gold for Best Financial Structure, earning praise from the judges who described it as a good example of partners working to develop a financing structure that provides best value to all stakeholders.

Since 2010, the University has embarked upon a programme of transformation, developing new residential, academic and research facilities.

This has led to the creation of the Bay Campus, which has provided the University with the capacity for growth and forms part of its ‘two-campus strategy’, with the Bay Campus focusing on science and innovation.

As part of the campus development, the University built around 2,000 on-campus student bedrooms in partnership with St Modwen Properties.

Prospective purchasers were required to demonstrate best financial value for money through an attractive purchase price, as well as the capability to offer the University a long-term partnership.

In June 2017, UPP was appointed as the Preferred Bidder, having met the best value for money criteria.

Following a successful first year of operations, an agreement between Swansea University, St Modwen and UPP will see the development of  a further 411 bedrooms on the Bay Campus in 2019.

Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Iwan Davies commented:

“I look forward to witnessing the continued success of our operations at the campus. I am highly confident we will continue to deliver, exceptional residential accommodation in support of the very best student experience at the University.”

Now in its 21st year, the Partnerships Awards is one of the biggest networking events in the industry calendar with a judging panel comprised of professionals from both the public and private sector.
