Professor Davies has been meeting businesses, alumni and other stakeholders during a visit to India, and also presented an honorary doctorate to the Chairman Emeritus of Tata Sons, Ratan Naval Tata, in recognition of the long-standing partnership between the University and Tata to support the 21^st century steel industry.

Professor Davies met the Vice-President Shri M Venkaiah Naidu at his official residence in Dehli, and talked about the University’s industry collaborations in India – as well as the partnership with Tata, researchers at Swansea are working with academics in India on solar and renewable energies, digital inclusion, health and  medicine, and engineering, for example the Sunrise project, a Swansea-led consortium developing renewable homes in India.

The University also welcomes many students from India each year and during the trip the Vice-Chancellor met with distinguished and early career alumni. 

Professor Davies said: “It is a huge honour to meet the Vice President and discuss the deepening relationship with India, both in terms of industry and research collaboration, and our growing links with the country through Swansea alumni.

“We are privileged to teach many Indian students, particularly in the fields of health, engineering and management, and to see the contribution our alumni make back in their home country.”
