Wales Week in London, which is organised to mark St David’s Day (Wednesday, March 1) and has events running from Monday, February 27 until Friday, March 10, was launched by Alun Cairns, Secretary of State for Wales in December 2016. 

The initiative’s founding partners are Acorn Recruitment, Bluegg, The Wales Office, Welsh Government, and Seer Green Financial Planning.

The Week’s programme of activities acts as a vehicle for Welsh organisations in all sectors to promote their products and services, while developing new London-based audiences, partnerships, and businesses connections.

Professor Marc Clement, Dean of Swansea University’s School of Management, said: “We believe that Wales Week in London will galvanise, showcase and leverage the School’s links with London-based Welsh communities and with our business partners.

“The School’s event, in partnership with Fujitsu, which recently opened its new Education Innovation Hub at the Bay Campus, takes place on St David’s Day itself and is organised in collaboration with the Machynlleth Comedy Festival and the Oldwalls Gower Collection.

“We have chosen the theme of ‘Legends of Welsh Comedy: Laughing Allowed’ to explore themes of identity and their relationships with business in this, the Welsh Government’s ‘Year of Legends’. And we are delighted that one of our invited speakers will be Henry Widdicombe, Founder of the Machynlleth Comedy Festival and an alumnus of Swansea University.

“This Wales Week in London event follows on from our highly successful ‘Gwlad, Gwlad: Sport, More Than a Game’ event, held in April last year, where a unique and world-class team of sports stars, clubs, speakers and panellists, including Wales football manager Chris Coleman, gathered for a one-day conference on how sport reflects our identity.

“We hope that our guests will take this opportunity, through our Wales Week in London event, to enjoy the nostalgia and celebrate all that is now being achieved.”

Wales Week in London is led by founders Dan Langford and Mike Jordan, two Welsh-based professionals who have long had business connections and been active in promoting Welsh business in London.

Mr Langford, group marketing director of Acorn Recruitment, said: “To have organisations of this calibre show their support for Wales Week in London demonstrates that it is being seen as a genuine opportunity to build on the strong links that exist between Wales and the Welsh that have chosen to build their careers in the capital.
