Oriel Science’s first exhibition “The Story of Time” (hosted in its temporary venue in Princess Way, Swansea, SA1 5HE) showcased Swansea University research related to time.  While that exhibition may have concluded, its legacy continues. 

The Oriel Science Future Wall gave visitors the opportunity to leave a note with their thoughts about the science and technology of the future. Over 600 notes were left between Sept 2016 and June of this year. The Future Wall quotes are now online via a Twitter account @FutureSwansea, which was put together by Oriel Science’s curator, Martin O’Leary and three Swansea Paid Internship Network (SPIN) students. Quotes include “the dinosaurs returning and living among us” and “we will stand together, all species across the world”.

Oriel Science's Dr Mary Gagen said:

"The Future Wall notes are a wonderful insight into the hopes, dreams and imagination of our city. One of my favourites is a note from a young visitor saying that they hope someone will invent a pillow that records our dreams so we could play them back when we woke up! It's also really uplifting to read how many of Swansea's young people left notes that talk about a better future for all, I'd encourage people to have a look at the quotes @FutureSwansea and see if they can spot theirs!”

Suitable for all ages, Oriel Science’s mission is to bring the wonders of Science to the public through exhibitions on a scientific theme, which will inspire visitors to think and explore how science and technology impact their daily lives.

The “Story of Time” exhibition covered globally relevant research such as the Large Hadron Collider; the world’s most complex scientific experiment built by Swansea-graduate Dr Lyn Evans. Showcase pieces included a ‘Back to the Future’ DeLorean connecting popular cultural references to time travel with cosmological research. An animated 30-metre "Time Wall" depicted the Universe’s history and our “Future Wall” asked visitors their thoughts about the science of their future; this piece of citizen art now forms the exhibition’s legacy.
