‌The Corporate Health Standard, run by the Welsh Government, is the quality mark for workplace health promotion in Wales. It is presented in bronze, silver, gold and platinum categories to public, private and third sector organisations implementing practices to promote the health and well-being of their employees.  

Commenting on the award Dr Heidi Smith, Head of Sustainability and Staff Wellbeing, said:

“Last year we were delighted to achieve the Bronze Award but we always said that we were aiming high.

We are thrilled with the news that our efforts have been turned into a Silver Award as the recognition helps to reinforce our commitment to Health and Wellbeing at the University.

This upgrade has been achieved with the successful launch of the SWell staff engagement app and the opening of the Health and Wellbeing Academy on the Singleton Campus.

Swansea University staff have worked very hard to achieve the Silver Award but we are aiming high and hope to turn our Silver into Gold as we continue to introduce measures to encourage everyone to be healthy, happy and active.”

The CHS award reflects the common purpose approach which Swansea University is taking across important areas like Health and Wellbeing. Its strategic plan highlights the aim to build on the strengths of staff from across the University eg Human Resources, Occupational Health, Health and Safety and Sustainability and Wellbeing, recognising and improving support for staff health and wellbeing in line with the University’s values.
