Dr Daniel Thompson who has joined as a Royal Society University Research Fellow and member of staff, specialises in generalised dualities in string theory and holography.  After obtaining his PhD at Queen Mary, Daniel has worked for over 6 years at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, before coming to Swansea.

Dr Thompson said: "It is very exciting to join one of the largest particle theory groups in the UK, and to be able to explore novel directions in fundamental particle physics. The group's interests cover a wide spectrum, which will allow me to find new applications of my ideas."

Dr Dibakar Roychowdhury has also joined the Department as a Royal Society - SERB Newton Fellow. Dr Roychowdrhury will work with Professor Prem Kumar and others, on shared interests in holography and integrability, applications of holography to condensed matter physics, and time dependent questions in holography.  He has previously worked at the Ben-Gurion University of The Negev in Israel and various institutes in India such as the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, and the S. N.Bose Centre, Kolkata.

He is the second Newton Fellow to join the group, after Dr Salomon Zacarias, who joins the team from Guanajuato University, Mexico and works with Professor Carlos Nunez on Non-abelian T-dualities, an interest shared with Dr Thompson.
