My One and All: My Swansea Coast is a unique exhibition of film-poem On the Sea’s Land (Ar-for-dir) alongside public photographic and poetic responses to connection and relationship to the Swansea and Gower coastline. Originally exhibited at Somerset House, On the Sea’s Land captures poet and Professor in Creativity at Swansea University Owen Sheers’ poetic journey along the Gower Coast, with stunning footage by Benjamin Wigley (artdocs) http://artdocs.co.uk/ . On The Sea’s Land was commissioned by Trust New Art / National Trust and Sound UK and supported by Arts Council England.

The My One and All: My Swansea Coast project delivered by The Research Institute for Arts and Humanities (RIAH),enabled the film to be exhibited in Swansea for the first time at Volcano Theatre  in November 2016, which was followed by an exhibition at The Ceri Richards Gallery. It has provided an opportunity for members of the public to respond creatively to their coastline, and have their creative responses on show at well-established cultural venues.  The original exhibition of these photographs was funded by, and formed part of ‘Being Human 2016’, the UK’s only Festival of the Humanities, at Volcano Theatre in the centre of Swansea.

Being Human is led by the School of Advanced Study, University of London, in partnership with the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) and the British Academy. The Swansea University festival hub was one of just seven across the UK and was led by RIAH.

‌The photographic responses were invited from members of the public, with 75 photographs submitted, giving a diverse and eclectic representation of connection to coast. A selection of the photographs shown at the exhibition were created through photography walks, in partnership with Coastal Housing and Clyne Farm Centre, and led by local professional photographers Natalie Hemmingway and Carl Ryan.

The poetry has been created and developed through a workshop led by Professor Sheers and working in collaboration with student volunteers from the Swansea University's Creative Writing department. The poetry workshop inspired the participants to create pieces about their coastal connections.

One of the project participants said, "The “My Swansea Coast Workshop” has opened my eyes, ears and mind to the breadth of poetry and has enhanced my personal insight. My enthusiasm has gained momentum"

Another participant commented that, “I have not had the motivation to write for over a year, and a subject so close to my heart was exactly what I needed to get me going again.”

My One and All: My Swansea Coast Exhibition at The Ceri Richards Gallery, Taliesin runs between Tuesday 7^th February and Saturday 18^th February.
