Given out in Diana, Princess of Wales’ name, the award is presented to young role models who are selflessly helping to transform the lives of others, going above and beyond to make a positive change in the world.

The Egypt Centre, Museum of Egyptian Antiquities, is located on Swansea University’s Singleton Campus. Every Saturday the museum is staffed by the young volunteers, who welcome visitors and demonstrate educational activities such as mummification. In their spare time the volunteers also research ancient Egypt and the museum itself, which hosts the largest collection of ancient Egyptian antiquities in Wales, to answer any questions the public may have.

As a result of their dedicated work, eight of the museum volunteers travelled to Cardiff City Hallon Monday 20th November 2017 to receive the Diana Champion Volunteer award from Rt. Hon Carwyn Jones, First Minister of Wales.‌

The Diana Award recognises and encourages them to continue their selfless work and will hopefully inspire others to volunteer in their schools and communities. The young volunteers are delighted to receive an award in recognition of their commitment to helping others.”
