The event, entitled ‘What the Community and Research can do for Dementia’ takes place from 9:15am until 4pm, on Tuesday, July 11, at the School of Management, Bay Campus.

The conference will feature a wide range of speakers, including Tony Jameson-Allen from the Sporting Memories Network; Nick Johnson from the ABMU Health Board Dementia Training programme; Jess Denicola and Bev Cooper: Person-centred and failure free activity on a specialist dementia unit; Tony Bayer: Treatment for dementia; and Sue and Sandi: Members of the Dementia Engagement and Empowerment Project (DEEP) and Dementia Matters in Powys (DMiP).

Emma Richards will speak on ‘Vascular cognitive impairment’; Amy Jenkins on ‘Subjective experiences of cognitive difficulties’; Claudia Metzler-Baddeley on ‘Brain white matter in dementia’; and Jeff Davies on ‘Preventing nerve cell loss in Alzheimer’s disease’.

Conference organisers Professor Andrea Tales and Dr Amy Jenkins from the Psychology Department-based Dementia Research Group, in the College of Human and Health Sciences, said: “We have a wonderfully diverse programme, which includes presentations of the fantastic dementia-related work being done by community groups, networks and projects together with a taste of some of the cutting edge research BRACE Alzheimer’s Research is funding and supporting in this region.”

The conference will also include a performance by the Musical Memories Choir, and there will be posters, stands, a cake stall, and the chance to discuss topics with all the speakers.

Lunch and refreshments are provided in the cost of attending the conference, which is £30 per person. This is to cover costs and any excess will be donated to BRACE.  There is no charge for individuals living with dementia and carers/supporters.
