The GwyddonLe (Science Space) is one of the most popular attractions on the Maes, and the university has pledged to continue its partnership with the Urdd Eisteddfod for the next three years.

Exciting developments

Aled Siôn, Director of the Urdd Eisteddfod, said: “We are delighted that Swansea University has confirmed its sponsorship for the next three years. We cherish our partnership, and the university’s input to the GwyddonLe’s programme has proven extremely popular with visitors. I’m sure there will be further exciting developments for the science pavilion over the next few years.”

During the Eisteddfod, which is being held in Flintshire between 30 May - 4 June, scientists from Swansea University will lead fun-filled family shows and inspiring workshops for all ages. Visitors can take part in hands-on activities involving 3D printing, Lego challenges, DNA experiments, Minecraft sessions and much more.

Other organisations joining the university in providing attractions in the GwyddonLe include S4C, Into Film, Big Learning Company, and Techniquest.

Representatives from the university will also be on hand to talk to people wanting to learn more about the courses and opportunities that Swansea University can offer.

One of S4C’s presenters, Tudur Phillips (pictured left), will officially open the GwyddonLe at 10.30am on Monday, 30 May, during which he will have an opportunity to take part in a series of exciting experiments.

Professor Iwan Davies, Senior Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Swansea University, said: “We are delighted to be sponsoring the GwyddonLe science pavilion at the Urdd Eisteddfod once again this year, and are proud of the exciting programme of events that will be led by Swansea scientists.

“Following the recent opening of our world-class £450 million science and innovation Bay Campus, the GwyddonLe provides a unique opportunity for us to promote both our research work and expertise as a university, as well as to encourage children and young people to engage with science through the medium of Welsh. The GwyddonLe will be open from 9.30am daily.
