‌Every participant, who were recruited from university staff, students and the local community, completed the challenge,  including  2 year old Andrew and his sister Tamzin who tandem abseiled with their father John. He said: “All Andrew could say was "again, again" and Tamzin wants to try a forward-facing abseil next time as she has seen me do it.”

The two day event, which formed part of Swansea University’s Discovery Charity's 50th Anniversary Celebration, was held to raise money to help underprivileged children from Zambia and South Africa through education,

The event has raised £10,000 which has surpassed the amount raised at the 120ft Swansea Civic Centre Abseil, 18 months before.

Matt Crowcombe of Director of SOS Africa said:” We are delighted with the result and we anticipate that the funds raised will pay for over 41 years of school tuition for the children supported by the two African education charities.

“Many of our abseilers now await a special fundraising prize draw taking place in November, to find out whether they have won two flight tickets to visit our projects in Africa.

“On behalf of both charities we would like to thank Swansea University and Gwalia for allowing us to host the event at the University's Singleton Campus, our brilliant instructors from Aardvark Endeavours and all of the participants and their sponsors for the formidable amount raised for both causes.”
