Civil and Structural Engineering retains its rank of 151-200 from last year, and this year Mechanical, Aeronautical and Manufacturing Engineering has also joined the top 200 moving up from a position within the top 250 last year. Mathematics also features within the rankings occupying a top 350 position.

Professor Hilary Lappin-Scott, Senior Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research and External Recognition), said: “We are delighted to see Swansea is again in the company of the world’s elite institutions with our Engineering disciplines ranked in the top 200 and Mathematics also doing exceptionally well in this year’s QS World University Rankings by Subject. There are tens of thousands of institutions across the globe and so to be ranked as high as these subjects is a tremendous success. This clearly sends the message that Swansea is providing its students with a world-class education.

“This result, along with a top 400 rank in both the Times Higher Education and QS World University Rankings in 2015; our 5 Stars rating success in the globally recognised QS Stars quality rating in 2015; and a number of other UK based independent surveys and league tables for overall student satisfaction (top 10, NSS), employability (top 20, Times), and research excellence (top 30, REF 2014), all confirm that Swansea University continues on its strong upward trajectory, fast gaining a reputation for international excellence.”

The opening of the University’s new £450m science and innovation Bay Campus in September 2015, which is home to the College of Engineering and designed to capitalise on its research expertise and collaboration with major companies including Rolls-Royce and Tata Steel, has further extended the institution’s international reach.  The development is regarded as one of the largest knowledge economy projects in the UK and within the top five in Europe.

“The Bay Campus is allowing us to expand our growing international strategic partnerships, bringing together top academic minds to exchange ideas and facilitate world-leading joint research, while also providing enviable student mobility opportunities to work or study abroad supported by over 100 university partnerships world-wide. The results of which as we can now see are starting to filter into more world league table success,” added Professor Lappin-Scott.
