Swansea University is now 16th in the UK and top in Wales for graduate job prospects, according to the Sunday Times Good University Guide 2016.    

This year’s fairs make up the largest ever careers and employability event to take place at Swansea University, and are spread over the two campuses;

•    Thursday 8 October:  Bay Campus, 10am-3pm, Engineering Central, and School of Management Atrium

•    Friday 9 October:  Singleton Campus, 10am-2pm, Study Hall, Library

Both fairs are open to all students.  Some employers are at both fairs, whereas others are there for one.   Students are therefore advised to check which employers are attending on which day.

‌The fairs have been organised by staff from the Swansea Employability Academy with the College of Engineering and School of Management.  

Linda Palmer from Swansea Employability Academy at Swansea University said:

"The fairs are open to all students, not just those in their final year.  It’s important that even first-year students start thinking about employability now.  It’s a chance to meet big employers from different sectors.  

It’s worth remembering too that over 70% of employers who recruit don’t specify a particular degree subject.  So students from all subjects should consider going along to see what’s on offer.  

We’ll also have information about volunteering opportunities, for example with the Wales Air Ambulance.   Volunteering can be a great way to get experience and boost your job prospects."

Salma El Hankouri, who studied Arts and Humanities at Swansea University, said that the fairs were very useful in boosting her employability:

"I had the opportunity to chat with many big companies from all over the UK. It gives us the chance to find the best career fit, become familiar with recruitment processes, improve our CV and learn many useful tips for interviews.  Last year, within a single day, I gathered so much information."

Finding out about all the opportunities available – in the UK and overseas - is really important.  Plus we are able to offer practical tips like help with CVs.
 
It’s all part of our effort to improve our students’ employability, and give them as much support as possible, especially in these tough times."

Swansea University Vice Chancellor Prof Richard B Davies and Senior Pro Vice Chancellor Professor Hilary Lappin-Scott will be opening the fairs.   

To coincide with the fairs, the College of Engineering will be holding an awards evening, and the School of Management will be holding a celebration event for students and companies involved in their work placement scheme.
