Swansea University is now top in Wales for providing opportunities for its graduates to go on to good jobs or further study, according to new independent figures available from the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA).

Data from the latest Destination of Leavers from Higher Education (DLHE) survey reveals that Swansea University is now ranked 15th in the UK and top in Wales for producing global graduates capable of entering graduate level further study or securing a professional level position within six months of graduating.

These figures show Swansea is now placed amongst world-leading institutions having jumped five places from 20th to 15th in the UK and for the first time in this measure breaking through the 80% barrier, with 81% of our graduates going on to good jobs or further study. The University now ranks higher than many Russell Group institutions considered to be in the UK’s top tier.

Professor Hilary Lappin-Scott, senior Pro-Vice-Chancellor, said: “These results have been achieved thanks to the varied and extensive employability support offered to Swansea students; equipping them with the skills, knowledge and opportunities to become global graduates who can stand out from the crowd. Our Swansea Employability Academy provides students with advice, training, work placements, internships, international opportunities and employability awards to enhance their prospects and prepare them to enter professional careers. We pride ourselves at consistently ranking amongst the UK’s top institutions for graduate prospects sending out the message that Swansea graduates are highly employable.

“This latest achievement also confirms Swansea’s position as an aspiring and ambitious University currently riding on a wave of recent successes that have seen our reputation soar. We are now comfortably a top-30 research intensive institution, coming 26th in the UK for research quality in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework, and we are ranked within the top 500 institutions worldwide (top 5%) in the QS World University Rankings and have achieved five stars for quality in the QS Stars University rating system.

“As well as the excellent teaching and learning environment, our location is second to none: in a park, opposite a beach and next to a vibrant city. Our new £450m science and innovation Bay Campus will open for students in September.”

The 2015 DLHE survey is based on students who graduated in 2013-14 to find out where they went within six months of leaving university. For example if they found employment, entered further study or perhaps were unemployed. This survey is also used by the University league table compliers (eg Guardian, Times) to generate various graduate employment measures.
