Local residents living near Swansea University’s new £450m science and innovation Bay Campus were recently invited to visit the development to see the new facilities on their doorstep.
More than 40 local residents took the opportunity for a sneak preview of the Bay Campus, which formally opens on Monday, September 21, including tours of inside the impressive Engineering Quarter, Bay Library, and the Great Hall.
The gateway into Swansea through Fabian Way has changed dramatically over the last two years with the construction of the University’s Bay Campus, which has been built on time and on budget in partnership with the UK’s leading regeneration specialist, St. Modwen.
Local resident and keen photographer Paul Harris said: “As I live opposite the construction site I have watched it being built from the ashes of the BP tank farm to these impressive buildings including the Great Hall, which is my view from my bedroom window.
“What a transformation, and the facilities being offered to the residents of Crymlyn Burrows are outstanding – cafes, restaurants, bars, and banking, it’s all on our doorstep. I can’t wait for it to open.”
Following the tour and some light refreshments, residents also had the opportunity to meet some of the Bay Campus’ contractors and also Swansea University staff and Students’ Union officers.
They spoke about what’s planned as the Bay Campus prepares to welcome its first students and formally open next month, and about the University’s desire to create a community panel with local residents.
Bay Campus – Open Day
On Saturday, October 10, at the University’s Undergraduate Open Day, the Bay Campus will open its doors to the local community, local business, family and friends of students and staff, and the general public, to whom the University extends an invitation and warm welcome to visit.
During the Open Day, from 12pm-4pm, there will be organised tours, presentations, and fun interactive demonstrations. To register your interest in attending, please visit the Campus Development website, or email: email@example.com.
