This lecture, which explains the complexity and dangers of the Shia-Sunni conflict between Muslims in the region, will be delivered by Mr Hain, MP for Neath, on Thursday 19 March at 6:30pm, and is entitled 'ISIL Terror, Islam and the West's Response'.

As well as authoring a number of books, chapters and newspaper articles on UK politics and foreign affairs, Peter, who is originally from South Africa,  has been a member of parliament since 1991 and is an active proponent of recommencing formal negotiations between Israelis and Palestinians. His memoirs Outside In were published in 2012 and his book on his parents' anti-apartheid activism Ad & Wal: Values, duty, sacrifice in apartheid South Africa was published in January 2014 (both by Biteback).  His latest book is Back to the Future of Socialism (Policy Press, 2015). 

Professor John Spurr, head of the College of Arts and Humanities, said: “This lecture will provide an important opportunity to hear Mr Hain, an expert  in the field of international relations and dispute resolution, discuss one of the most complex and challenging issues facing contemporary society.”

The lecture forms part of the Research Institute for Arts and Humanities public lecture and event series which annually welcomes many high-profile speakers to Swansea.

• The lecture will take place on Thursday 19 March 2015 – light refreshments will be available before the lecture from 6pm; lecture commences at 6.30pm.
