In March 2014, Swansea University’s College of Engineering entered an exclusive research partnership with HP research labs in Palo Alto California for undertaking cutting edge innovation in the areas of intelligent communications, data analytics, green sensors and cyber security.

The aim of this exclusive research partnership is to transform Swansea University’s Bay Campus into a smart one. As part of this collaboration, Dr Amip Shah – who leads IoT research, technology development, and commercialisation activities at HP Labs – will present examples on the how technology is now set to positively influence the quality of our lives.

As the ‘Internet of Things’ (IoT) becomes a reality, everything we touch – from the appliances in our homes to the roads in our cities – will be monitored by sensor networks. From public safety and personal health to electric grids and traffic systems, disruptive value can be availed from the ability to mine the data from across these connected devices. In this talk, Dr. Amip Shah will discuss technology being developed to harness value from the emerging IoT, across applications spanning consumer, commercial, and industrial applications.

Dr. Amip Shah leads research, technology development, and commercialisation activities at HP Labs for the emerging ‘Internet of Things’ and its associated implications for a new class of 'cyber-physical' systems. Dr. Shah has authored or co-authored over 100 technical papers and reports in the areas of information technology, energy management, environmental sustainability, and energy policy. He has also been named on over 70 invention disclosures, several of which have been filed as patent applications within the U.S. and abroad.
