Dr Bernard Robin  works at the University of Houston, one of the institutions at the heart of  Swansea University’s strategic partnership with Texas which includes Texas A&M University, Rice University and the Methodist Hospital Research Institute. 

His lecture will take place on Tuesday, July 29, at 1pm, in the College of Medicine’s Taught Masters Suite, on the first floor of the Grove Building. A light lunch will be served from 12.30.

Dr Robin (pictured left) has worked at the University of Houston’s College of Education  since 1993. His interests include instructional technology training for the professional development of teachers and educational administrators, the educational uses of digital photography, digital video, and digital storytelling, and the use of technology to support education in the health sciences.

Digital storytelling can be used by medical professionals to inform patients about specific diseases and conditions, promote healthy lifestyles, provide patients and survivors with an outlet to share their experiences of trauma and recovery and promote medical education programmes.

The College of Medicine has a close collaboration with the University of Houston’s College of Education with Swansea academics teaching on its doctorate in Professional Leadership which prepares students for leadership positions in academic healthcare settings.

In addition, colleagues from the University of Houston have contributed to the development of a similar programme at Swansea, with a new Professional Doctorate in Education for the Health Professions launched by the College of Medicine in June 2014.

In May, 2014, The University of Houston and Swansea University formalised their partnership by signing a Memorandum of Understanding to promote research collaboration and staff and student mobility between the institutions.
