National Lottery funding has been provided through the Sport Wales Calls for Action programme to projects that will deliver high impact results in terms of the numbers of people accessing community sport in the future.

The WeCycle scheme will be based at the Swansea University International Sports Village and will provide staff, equipment, facilities and events for individuals of all ages and abilities, across the community. 

The University will create partnerships with Sport Wales, Welsh Cycling and local clubs including Gower Riders, to work towards developing a central hub for cycling in Swansea.  Clubs will be able to utilise the extensive coaching and fitness facilities at the Sports Village, with additional cycling specific infrastructure planned during the next three years.

WeCycle will also offer cycle hire and maintenance allowing families, groups and individuals to hire bicycles for use around Swansea Bay.  The hire facility will be managed in association with the COASTAL project.

“This is a perfect opportunity to build on the success of the British Cycling team at London 2012 and Sir Bradley Wiggins Tour de France win.  Through strong partnerships and engagement this project will see Swansea at the heart of cycling development in South Wales”
