Swansea is hosting the latest in a series of seminars bringing together international experts in the field of individual employment disputes, to look at improving ways of managing and resolving them.
Employment Tribunal claims have risen to around 200,000 each year. Disputes cost the UK economy some 370 million working days each year due to conflict and stress – an average of 2 hours per worker each week.
The Swansea University seminar, which took place on 14th February, is entitled ‘Mediation and alternative dispute resolution – outcomes and impacts’. It focused on the growing body of research into mediation and alternative dispute resolution in the UK.
Professor Paul Latreille, the organiser of the Swansea event said: “This was a really exciting event. With such a diverse range of contributors and delegates, the discussion was useful, lively and rich in insights.”
This seminar series brings together, for the first time in the UK, academic researchers, policy-makers and practitioners to explore workplace dispute resolution and the management of conflict. The series is organised by the Economic and Social Research Council. It is sponsored by Acas, CMP Resolutions, Consensio Partners and the TCM Group, and supported by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS), the CBI, TUC, British Chambers of Commerce and the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development.
