The Distinguished Lecture, Innovation Begins at Home, will be delivered by Dr Andy Stanford-Clark - an IBM Distinguished Engineer and a ‘master inventor’. 

With more than 40 patents, Dr Stanford-Clark specialises in remote telemetry, energy monitoring and management, Smart Metering and Smart Grid technologies. He has a particular interest in home energy monitoring, home automation, demand-side management, and driving consumer behaviour change.

 During the talk, the Chief Technologist and Fellow of the British Computer Society, will explain how his interest in home automation, and his passion for energy saving, led to projects that have helped alleviate energy poverty in social housing. 

 Dr Stanford-Clark will also outline how these projects have provided innovative ideas for driving consumer behaviour change and, as importantly, the future smart energy grid that will include a mix of micro-generation, electric vehicles, demand management, storage technologies and novel fuels for transport.

The Distinguished Lecture Series is organised by Swansea University’s Computer Science Department in collaboration with Software Alliance Wales. The lectures, delivered by distinguished computer scientists, are free and open to all. However, as places are limited, registration is recommended.
