Festival of Research - There’s something about Mary (Rose)

This public lecture, which is free of charge and open to all, will look at how science is revealing more and more about the 16th century warship Mary Rose and it inhabitants, especially the King’s archers.

Title: There’s something about Mary (Rose): How science is unraveling the mysteries of Henry VIII’s favourite warship.

Come along and learn about the captain of the King’s archers, and elite athlete capable of amazing feats of physical prowess. Having trained from the age of 7, he was wealthy and successful until his untimely death when, at 4 pm on July 19 1545, he drowned, along with 400 of his fellow crew as the Mary Rose sank to the sea bed.

Nick and Sarah will explain how cutting edge technology is helping unravel the secrets of the warship and what the skeletal remains and artefacts are revealing about the archers.
