Katie Barrowman, aged 17 of Gower earned a Gold Youth University Award which is the equivalent of 600 out of school hours.

Amira Rabab, aged 14 of Penlan was awarded a Gold Children’s University Award, which is the equivalent of 400 out of school hours.

Syd Howells, Egypt Centre Volunteer Manager said: “ This fantastic news is testimony to the commitment of our young volunteers and their work at the Egypt Centre.  We are very proud of the effort they put in at the museum and actively encourage them to learn as much as they can about the culture and people of Ancient Egypt.”    

The Children and Young People's University Cymru (CU) is a national accreditation scheme for all children and young people aged 5-19, which recognises and rewards the commitment they give to many activities outside school hours. A National Agreement sets out the principles and practices of the CU.

The CU awards credits to children and young people who attend out of school hours learning activities which have been registered with CU. Children and young people attend activities entirely from choice and the activity organiser sends in the registers. The attendances from the registers are then turned into credits. One hour = one credit.

• The Egypt Centre, Museum of Egyptian Antiquities, situated at the Swansea University officially opened in 1998. The collection comprises over 4500 objects largely from the pharmacist Sir Henry Wellcome collection (1853-1936).  The Egyptian material largely covers the period c.100,000 B.C. - A.D. 500 in two galleries and includes jewellery dating from the time of Tutankhamun, weapons, a mummified crocodile and much, much more. There are lots of hands on activities for children and adults alike, the most popular of which is the dummy mummy.
