The Hywel Dda Institute’s annual lecture will be delivered at Swansea University by Sir David Lloyd Jones, Chairman of the Law Commission of England and Wales.

Sir David Lloyd Jones is a judge of the Court of Appeal of England and Wales and Chairman of the Law Commission. He attended Pontypridd Boys’ Grammar School and Downing College, Cambridge, where he served as a Fellow from 1975 to 1991.

He was called to the bar of the Middle Temple in 1975 and became a Recorder in 1994 and served as a junior Crown Counsel (Common Law) from 1997 to 1999. He was appointed Queen's Counsel in 1999.

In 2005, he was appointed a judge of the High Court, and was assigned to the Queen's Bench Division. He served as Presiding Judge on the Welsh Circuit and Chair of the Lord Chancellor’s Standing Committee on the Welsh Language from 2008 to 2011.

In 2012, was appointed a Lord Justice of Appeal and member of the Privy Council and in the same year, he was appointed Chairman of the Law Commission of England and Wales.

The Hywel Dda Institute is a College of Law research centre named after the tenth century Welsh king traditionally associated with producing native Welsh laws. The role of the institute is to promote research and scholarship on the Welsh legal tradition and the laws and legal system of modern Wales.
