The money, awarded to selected universities across the UK, is for doctoral training grants (DTGs) and will help universities to recruit postgraduate students for research and support them during their projects.  

David Willetts, UK government minister for Universities and Science, said:

It will drive growth and help secure our future as a leading science and engineering nation, with a wealth of skilled people able to tackle global challenges, from infrastructure planning to public health.”

Nurturing the next generation of researchers is an important part of the work of Swansea University.   This funding will mean that the University is able to support more young researchers in the Colleges of Engineering and Science.

The EPSRC is the UK’s main agency for funding research in engineering and the physical sciences. EPSRC invests around £800m a year in research and postgraduate training, to help the nation handle the next generation of technological change. The areas covered range from information technology to structural engineering, and mathematics to materials science.
