Swansea University students will be running out onto the Twickenham Stoop ground pitch in force this weekend when the Welsh students RFU squad take on their English counterparts in a Six Nations pre-match clash.

The Welsh students V English students match takes place on Friday 24th February at 5pm.

Swansea University students excelled in the extensive selection nomination and trial process with the result that three players have made the team and another three have made it on to the subs bench – with last years Varsity Man of the Match Tom Rowlands starting at number 9.

Richard Lancaster, Swansea University coach said:  “We are really pleased that so many players from our first team have been selected for representational honours and this again highlights the high standard of rugby at the University and the development players undergo whilst here.

“The Welsh Students team has been a welcomed addition to the national tiers this year and I hope it develops to have a full international fixture list in years to come.

“Reuben Tucker has already been selected for the Wales Under 20s this year and Richard Smith has been with the Welsh 7s team and it is encouraging we now have players representing the University who are gaining honours at all levels.”

The Six Nations experience and training will help Swansea University players in their preparation for the forthcoming Welsh Varsity match.
