Swansea University’s Human Resources Department have won an award in the 2012 Universities Human Resources (UHR) awards for excellence in HR in higher education.
Swansea’s HR Department came first in the category ‘HR contribution to business efficiency in challenging times’ for its Performance Enabling Programme on performance review linking with one of the UHR’s themes for 2012: enabling HR innovation and learning from each other during a time of change and challenge.
David Williams, Director of Human Resources at Swansea University was presented with a trophy and certificate for the Programme at the awards which took place at the UHR conference in Ashford on 17 May.
The UHR cited Swansea’s Performance Enabling programme as: ‘making a real difference to organisational performance. There was a brilliant line of sight from the organisation, to the individual staff member, to students. It was impressive for this project to link so directly, individual performance reviews to organisational performance and the business objectives, in a very focused and specific way.’
Speaking of the accolade, Mr Williams said: “The Performance Enabling process, through the innovative use of individual staff data linked to organisational indicators, provides clarity for members of staff with regard to their role and indicates standards of performance. It ensures that members of staff are clear on the University’s objectives and their part in contributing to their delivery. It also describes how support, training and feedback are available to all employees to enable them to perform to their maximum level.”
