A £1.25 million project, led by Estates & Facilities Management, will see significant work undertaken on the ground floor of the Fulton House, developing the space and providing three brand new retail outlets and an improved home for the Students’ Union Advice & Support Centre Service.

As well as investing in new services, the project will also help improve the aesthetic and mechanical condition of the building, which first opened in 1965. At the heart of the scheme is a significantly improved, 200m2 ‘mini market’ - offering a large range of convenience and fresh foods, including fruit, vegetables, breads, meats, and an international foods range recreating the success of Niche.  This will provide a great resource for all those living on and off campus. 

Additionally, there will be separate provision for an official University/Students’ Union merchandise store and a brand new ‘grab and go’ café complimenting the existing campus offering.

The new offerings will help to significantly enhance the student, staff and visitor experience by providing greater choice, better value and improved accessibility.

The Students’ Union Advice and Support Centre (currently located to the east of Fulton House) will move to refurbished offices in the west of the building, formerly occupied by the University Health Centre.  The new space will not only significantly improve the visibility and accessibility of the service but will provide an improved working environment for staff and students, offering the potential to expand the services on offer to the student population.

“I’m absolutely thrilled that the Advice and Support Centre will be moving to bigger and better premises over the summer. Last year, they dealt with over 2000 issues from students and put over £13,000 back in students’ pockets. We’re very excited that the move will allow us to change and grow to make the service even better for students next year.”

Work will begin in late June and is due for completion in September.  Access to the west elevation of the ground floor will be restricted whilst construction is in progress but all key services will remain available to campus users.
